"New Career Paths: Opportunities for 2015 and Beyond"

Presidents Breakfast Club

Friday, March 6, 2015

Nearly five years ago, the HBS-Club of Philadelphia hosted a panel discussion on the job market for Greater Philadelphia. Back then, research revealed a recession-battered workforce — one with lower expectations, increased anxiety and new priorities.   Fast forward to 2015 and an apparent improvement in job prospects appear to be on the landscape for a number of industries, but is it the same for all industries (financial services, pharma, etc.) and functions?  Our PBC speakers will address not only their own interesting career paths but also provide their perspectives on new career opportunities.

Alyse Bodine is partner-in-charge of Heidrick & Struggles' Philadelphia office and a member of the global Financial Officers Practice. Her search experience comprises corporate and divisional chief financial officer, controller, audit, treasurer, investor relations and tax assignments. She works with a diverse client base including Fortune 500, small- and medium-sized public and private companies, as well as private equity- and venture-backed companies. Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Alyse was an investment banker with a regional investment banking firm, where she was also the founder of a division of the firm’s marketing department.

She has been involved in the Philadelphia community as both an active volunteer and board member of various professional and non-profit organizations including the Free Library of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia American Marketing Association, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, White-Williams Scholars and the Junior League of Philadelphia. She is a member of W.O.M.E.N. in America, a nation-wide organization aimed toward helping professional women advance their careers through mentorship and leadership training.  Alyse is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.

John Kuper is a senior client partner with Korn Ferry where he focuses on communications and technology areas. In addition, Mr. Kuper is a member of the Firm’s Financial Officers Practice.  For more than fifteen years, Mr. Kuper has demonstrated a proven ability to advise senior executives on the process of identifying, attracting and evaluating leaders in order to build successful companies. Throughout his career, Mr. Kuper has completed Board, CEO, CFO, CMO and other senior management searches for technology, consumer services and multinational corporations.

Prior to Korn Ferry, Mr. Kuper was a Partner and a member of the executive committee with Howard Fischer Associates. Mr. Kuper graduated from Hampden Sydney College and following graduation, served as Assistant Dean of Admissions. Jeff Constable leads Spencer Stuart's Philadelphia office and is a member of their Financial Officer Practice, assisting a diverse array of both large and mid-cap clients in their search for chief financial officers and other senior financial and corporate development talent. He has led client engagements across industries throughout the U.S. and in Europe, including many senior executive and CFO roles at financial services companies and private equity-backed enterprises. He also serves in the Private Equity Practice, where he is active in the broader management of some of the firm’s key relationships, from advising owners and boards on CEO succession planning issues to the assessment of internal leadership talent. From an industry perspective, he brings deep experience in the areas of insurance, consumer financial services, banking, for-profit education, industrial, distribution and business-to-business services.
